How You Think Is How You Feel

How you think is how you feel.  To prove this point imagine waking up this morning and saying to yourself, “I feel so tired.  It looks miserable out.  It is only Tuesday.  Here we go again.”  After having these thoughts, how do you think you will feel?  You will feel miserable and tired! Your feelings are a reflection of your thoughts.

Now imagine if you woke up this morning and said to yourself, “I feel alive! I have the whole day ahead of me.  I can’t wait to do something awesome today.”  You say these words and you smile with energy and excitement.  How do you think you will feel?  It’s simple- you will feel enthusiastic to get the day started, happy, and energized.  Your body and how it feels is an exact reflection of your thinking.

We were wired this way.  The nervous system runs throughout your entire body and is connected to the brain (which is the organ of the mind).  It carries your thoughts through every cell of the body.  Your body and the way it feels is impacted by what goes on in your mind.

For example, take a second and focus your thinking and attention on a part of your body.  Let’s say you focus on your right hand.  You look down on your hand and you think about how strong and powerful your hand is. You flex the muscles in your hand for a bit and you continue to think about its amazing power and all that it can do.  As a result of this, your hand feels strong, alive, and capable of doing amazing things.

You can literally make your whole body feel the way you want it to by the way you think.  If you think and believe that you feel sick, your body will feel sluggish, weak, and lethargic.  If you think and you believe that you are completely in harmony and at peace, the body will feel relaxed, calm, and at ease.

In order to control how you feel, work on your thinking.  Next time you start the day or begin that conference call or meeting, think positively, get excited, and fill your mind with good, enthusiastic thoughts.  As a result, you will FEEL great during the meeting.  You will feel like it was better than most and that you enjoyed your time.  Others will notice how upbeat and positive you were.

In sum, don’t feel like crap when you don’t have to! Be mindful and aware of your thinking and the very idea that if you just change your thoughts for the better, your feelings will follow right along.  How you think is how you feel!

-Enjoy!
