There will be times when you come short. When you miss the mark. Get over it and get over it quickly! This is what I call failing forward fast. You want to first learn from any mistake that you may have made. Look for the silver lining. There is usually always one to be found. Once you find it, learn from it, and move on. With every mistake or miss, understand that you are that much closer to success.
Think about it this way- with each miss that you incur, you become better, smarter, and more experienced as long as you can learn from it. This experience is only going to get you that much closer to hitting your mark next time. So when failure happens, don’t throw a big pity-party and get down on yourself and question your abilities. Find the silver lining and pivot (move on). And do so quickly.
Many people, especially in sales, will dwell on a miss (a sale that maybe they lost). They will let that loss consume them. It might ruin their day or even the whole week. They might get an earful from the boss about it too, only adding to the negative thoughts. Very soon that salesperson is questioning their job, their company, their abilities to sell, and so on. This is all nonsense and completely unnecessary. Those negative thoughts will only lead to more negative results. The exact opposite of what you want after a loss! Why? Because like attracts like. Negativity attracts negative results.
Fail forward fast. Learn and move on as fast as possible. Focus your energy on the next sale, the next opportunity. Become that much more determined to win the next one. Know that you are that much closer to success after a fail. Keep this in mind and reflect on it. Especially when others may ask you about your fail and question you on it. Don’t take it, or them, personally. Trust in your abilities and know that you are even more armed and prepared to win the next one!
Fail forward fast!
